Privacy Policy

JDM Gems is an editorial website. We collect as little as we can, we do not sell anything to anyone, and we do not run advertising or tracking networks. This page explains what that means in practice.

What we collect

There are only two ways we end up with information about you.

• You contact us. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive whatever you put in it — typically your name, your email address and your message. We use it to reply to you, and for nothing else.
• You visit the site. Our host records standard technical request data: IP address, browser type, the page requested, the time. This is ordinary server logging, and it is what lets the site be delivered and protected from abuse.

Analytics and cookies

We use privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics to see which articles are read. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint your device, and cannot identify you or follow you to other websites. Because of that, this site sets no tracking cookies and there is no consent banner for you to dismiss.

Who else is involved

We use a small number of third parties to run the site. Each receives only what it needs to do its job:

• Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery and security. Processes request data.
• Formspark — delivers contact-form submissions to us by email.
• Cloudflare Turnstile — checks that form submissions are not automated. A privacy-preserving alternative to reCAPTCHA.

How long we keep things

Contact correspondence is kept for as long as it is useful to the conversation and then deleted. Server logs are retained on our host's standard schedule, which is a matter of days rather than years. Analytics data is aggregate and holds nothing about you as an individual.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. In practice this is almost always just an email thread, and we will action any such request promptly and without argument.

Children

This site is aimed at a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how any of this works, we will update this page and the date at the top of it. Material changes will be noted on the site rather than slipped in quietly.
